The concept of land grants as a key, strategic tool for growth for American universities. From your observance of the readings, what impact did land grants have? How did they shape the emergence of higher education both at the time of their initial consideration, as well as their continued impact on colleges today? Be specific and give examples.

Discussion Question: Must be at least 300 words not including reference. 

If we had the opportunity to give consideration to the emergence of some specific, programmatic focal points in higher education that had a significant impact on the growth of higher education. Two areas in particular that were covered in this reading revolved around agriculture and engineering. Since these are two essential areas in our economy, the readings clearly were helpful in exploring their role in shaping higher education. Please describe the impact of these programs on the ongoing emergence and evolution of our system of higher education and articulate how the emergence of these elements had an impact on higher education systems and the people they serve to this day.
