Scenario: You are responsible for selecting candidates to interview for the Project Manager position you advertised. Below are the responsibilities, requirements, and skills for a successful candidate. With over 100 resumes submitted, your task is to develop a checklist of criteria that you will use in screening the resumes to select the top five candidates.

Present a minimum one-page explanation of your process for Project Manager resume screening. In a separate Word document, create a checklist with a rating scale for resume evaluation targeted to the Project Manager position. Your checklist should also include criteria for evaluating the resume appearance and organization.

Project Manager Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties for the flawless execution of multiple projects
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs
  • Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques
  • Perform risk management to minimize potential risks
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Meet with internal staff to clarify specific requirements of each project
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams, and process maps to document needs
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills

Project Manager Requirements:

  • Proven working experience in project management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Salesforce
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with project management software tools

Project Manager Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change
  • Strong skills to communicate effectively with all levels internal and external constituencies, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to multitask with demanding time frames
  • Skilled in proofreading, editing, and independently drafting correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve the department’s goals
