Symbol Element of Fiction

Write an essay including a thesis statement using the Symbol Element, one of the elements of fiction to describe the short fictional story THE LOTTERY by Shirley Jackson. A symbol is a literary device that contains several layers of meaning, often concealed at first sight, and is representative of several other aspects, concepts or traits than those that are visible in the literal translation alone. Symbol is using an object or action that means something more than its literal meaning. Some examples of symbols in the story are the title The Lottery, stones, black box, black spot on the lottery paper, and ritual. The essay should represent the Symbol Element of fiction from this short story.
