Evaluation Paper #2: Book Review of The Last of the Menu Girls

Write a book review of the One Book One Valley text, The Last of the Menu Girls. A book review is a description, critical analysis, and an evaluation on the quality, meaning, and significance of a book, not a retelling. It should focus on the book’s purpose, content, and authority. A critical book review is not a book report or a summary. It is a reaction paper in which strengths and weaknesses of the material are analyzed. It should include a statement of what the author has tried to do, evaluate how well (in the opinion of the reviewer) the author has succeeded, and present evidence to support this evaluation.

Specific Guidelines:

The book review must be on the text, The Last of the Menu Girls. The book review needs to be at least 2-3 full pages long, double-spaced. In addition to providing a brief summary of the work, you will also need to acknowledge its thesis or main point. Remember that a book review is primarily made up of your evaluation of the text. So, you will need to include your own evaluative thesis and include reasons to support it.

These reasons should consist of examples, quotes, paraphrases from the text. Most importantly, remember that a review is not solely based on personal taste (i.e. “This book is great”)! It is an Be sure to address each of the concerns mentioned on the attached handout. This handout may serve as a guide of sorts to your writing. Submission Guidelines: You need to provide me with an electronic and hard copy of final copies of major papers. Please follow the instructions on Canvas that explain how to submit work electronically. When turning in the hard copy of major papers, you will need to turn in the final copy as well as any drafts and completed peer-editing forms. Please double space, use 12-point font (black ink), Times New Roman, and include a 1-inch margin on all sides of the page. You will not need a cover sheet for any of the assignments but please include the following information in the upper left-hand corner of the first page of the assignment: Your name, course prefix, my name, type of assignment and the date. Center your title, skip a line and begin writing your essay. Try to make the title informative as well as creative. Your title should have no quotation marks around it nor should it be bold-faced, underlined, or italicized. Make sure to number the pages of your paper as follows: In the upper right hand corner, starting with the second page, include your last name and the page number (starting with the number 2).
