Understanding and interpreting clinical research is vital for implementing EBP. Nurses must understand and differentiate between clinical significance and statistical significance. For instance, a statistically significant result is the difference between the variables that were not caused by normal variation. Statistical significance is the parameter in EBP, showing the likelihood that the results from the research did not occur by chance (Armijo-Olivo, 2018). Researchers use the probability value to indicate the possibility of the randomness of a getting a specific outcome but not the actual variables being studied. On the other hand, the clinical significance is the subjective interpretation of a survey’s findings as meaningful for patient care, influencing the healthcare provider’s behaviour (Armijo-Olivo, 2018). A study’s results will be clinically significant if the findings are crucially applicable to medical providers and they believe they can be applied to improving patient care and outcomes.

The researcher must always determine the study’s statistical significance in evidence-based research and project before deciding the clinical significance. However, because clinical significance is always subjective, it is hard for clinicians and researchers to evaluate it in a single experiential test. In my research project, I intend to use clinical significance to support positive outcomes by ensuring the statistics obtained from the survey are statistically significant because most statistically significant findings critically promote positive healthcare outcomes.
